- is a long-term drug user (not primary solvent, alcohol or cannabis)
- is motivated to complete a residential programme of 9 months
- is eager to develop skills and gain qualifications
- enjoys, or feels he would enjoy, the challenge of hard work in a working environment
- is looking to live within a family home structure
- feels the need to address issues and traumas of the past
- desires personal relationships to be addressed on a one-to-one basis
- is often sensitive, needs help to positively assert himself, is insecure and sometimes withdrawn
- would feel more comfortable in a small unit
- needs to have a separation from his own area of living, to a quiet rural setting
- is determined to see the programme through, even though he may have outside commitments (partner, parents, children), and who is also aware that this may require periods of confinement to the unit
- is prepared to take greater responsibility after 6 months, both within and without the unit through a programme of Team Membership
- is prepared to commit himself to a totally drug-free programme where abstinence will be a continuing lifestyle
